Beachy Getaway Wishlist

It’s the middle of July. I have yet to go to the beach. Who am I even more? This year’s sandy vacations are starting late, the first one I’ll be headed off to is in two weeks time (I can make it, I can do it). I’m getting by by working my butt off to save some extra money for outlet shopping splurges and innumerable beachside margaritas. Oh, and pondering new items to bring with me! Here’s a peek into my beachy wishlist for this year:
Beachy Getaway Must Haves via Que Sera Sahra
Nothing says “beach vibes” quite like a gauzey caftan from Calypso St Barth; perfect for all day wear, no matter where my beach wanderings bring me.
if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll have noticed it has been like THE HARDEST thing in my life to find a swimsuit.Asos fuller bust bikini is a perfect mix of cleavage-covering and cut out bearing.
Mirrored Sunnies a la Ray ban via Urban Outfitters make reading/sleeping less of a spectation.
This Yes Way Rose tote is perfect to carry all my belongings from the house to the sand to the bar.
To pair with the bag, a bottle of 2012 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose, yes WAY.
Book: Darling You Can’t Do Both And Other Noise To Ignore for some light yet positive reading.
Pendleton Towel via South Moon Under to stay dry and cozy while getting my tan on.
Fuji Instax to capture memories instantly. It was on my goals for 2014 to capture more on film, and what better way!

Have you been to the beach yet this summer? What are your beach must-haves?

Buffalo Exchange Celebrates 40 years!

buff 5As an UnderEmployed Fashionista one might say I’m a savvy thrifting shopper. One of my favorite spots is Buffalo Exchange, particularly the one in Georgetown. So when the manager told me about their 40th anniversary party and sale I knew I HAD to be there! I mean, I try to get there on a weekly basis (I’m waiting for someone with size 6.5 feet to just purge their shoe closet), but this was going to be bigger and better.

Saturday morning came and an excited me and not-as-enthralled Z drove into Georgetown ready to see an airstream and some killer vintage pieces. While the bustling city proved to be too busy for a silver bus, the event carried on inside with face painting, amazing deals, free swag, and some seriously buzzing shoppers and associates. Due to it being their anniversary, they brought in some classic Arizona and vintage pieces from boots and satchels to shimmery sequined dresses and accessories. I found some amazing pieces (as always), but unfortunately no shoes (as always), but even the man got some great things.

I took home some limited edition reusable bags, tee shirts, stickers, pens, pins, and temporary tattoos, as well as a copy of their most recent lookbook (LOVE the boho southern inspirations for summer). Donations at the event went towards Yellowstone National Park, and with my BF’s love of all things buffalo, it’s safe to say he’s pleased with the logo’d swag. All this to celebrate 40 amazing years of fabulous thrifting? HELL YES! While most of the southern tour dates are finished, the tour itself isn’t quite done. Be sure to check here to see if the silver airstream party is coming to you soon! And follow the adventures on the interwebs with #Bufex74 !

The Blogger’s Checklist

Hello followers!
There’s been an idea in my mind for awhile, to create a template to keep me in line with all of my postings and sharings AFTER I hit the “publish” button on a post. In a bit of free time recently I created this fun sheet to help me, and figured I’d share it with you all!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As you must know, being a blogger these days is more than just your own blog; it’s the full online and media presence. You need to have a Facebook page to follow, a Twitter for interacting, an InstaGram to follow and interact on….Pinterest, Vine, LookBook, Chictopia, ifB, etc….there’s SO MUCH. I know I constantly get overwhelmed and having this list has surely helped.

While sharing to your media and tagging brands is a given, why not go a step further? If the brand has sponsored you with merchandise of course link back to their website, but even if it wasn’t a sponsored post, it’s always nice to send a little email to the brand with a link to your blog post stating how much you loved wearing them and supporting them! This shows the brand that you’re there, your professional, and interested.
Another thing I LOVE to do to increase my blog/posts reach is to invest some time into comment love; this means commenting on other blogs, making sure its genuine and nice, and always signing with a hyper-link to my page. When I get bored, some days I’ll even just go to a “famous” blog and click on all the hyper-links to peruse new blogs I may have never seen before!

What do you think of this list? What do you do to increase the reach of your blog posts?

Brainy Bath Bomb + GIVEAWAY

20131204-144523.jpg20131203-162224.jpgY’all know I’m not your average girl over here…I’m a little bit classic, and a lot of bit edge, with some seriously punk roots. I love a lot of “darker” things; skulls, zombies, kitschy brain and sugar skull things; among leather and studs alongside lace and jewels. I’m also a big fan of my relaxing self dates, usually involving bubbles and bath bombs. When I first heard about Zombomb, I knew I needed them in my life. Based out of Canada, this small business creates bath bombs for the zombie lover, from brain bombs to heart shaped “bombs”, as well as “rotting flesh” soap (which actually smells sweet and candy-like) and “braiiins” soap. I tried out my first bomb, a “blood bath” brain bomb, smelling ever so sweet and herbal, this past weekend. I poured my wine, ran my bath, and then basked in the relaxation.
20131203-162345.jpg This bath bomb was one of my favorites EVER. And trust me, I’ve tried plenty. I’ve had the perfected mass-produced Lush, as well as the powdery/oily versions of other local small businesses, and even tried some home made DIY bath bombs. But literally nothing has ever been so subtle and perfect as these. They are a perfect blend of oils and powder and scents, leaving the skin smooth without residue. Again, I’ve tried plenty and can’t say enough good things about Zombomb‘s products.

Now that my gushing is over, it’s time to get to the fun part! Zombomb and I have teamed up to give ONE lucky reader one awesome giveaway pack! The set includes a “blood” bomb, a cotton candy “brain bomb” as well as this cool Zombie cameo necklace! A Winner will be chosen ONE WEEK on December 11! zombomb giveawaybath bombs

Wishlist: 13 Books for The Blogger on Your Lists

Bloggers are fans of wishlists, this I know. With the holidays just around the corner, I wanted to do a series of wishlists, all non-apparel. This week is the first, and I’m going to discuss the best books in the business for anyone in your life interested in fashion! Many of these I already own, and are ones I highly recommend. The 3 I do not own are on my own wishlist, as I’ve heard great review!book wishlist1: The Boss of You
I own this book; it’s highlighted, underlined, crammed with notebook pages of my own notes. It’s full of exercises and steps to get you where you want to be in your business, whether it’s owning your own store, or the business of blogging, or anything!

2. A to Zoe
I love this book for many reasons; it’s a great coffee table book, it’s by an intelligent and iconic stylist, and goes over anything and everything you could need to know about dressing for various events and curating the perfect wardrobe.

3. Writing for the Fashion Business
This book was recquired reading for my college degree, yet it’s something I go back to time and time again and definitely suggest to anyone who takes writing for their blog seriously, or has aspirations of becoming a fashion writer.

4. Alexa Chung’s IT
This book is SO NEW to the market, yet has come with some great reviews. A collection of photos, blurbs, and stories about the iconic “it” girl is inspiration enough for any blogger coveting the “it” factor.

5. Fashion of the 20th Century
Another great coffee table book, this one is for the blogger who is visually stimulated, as it covers 100+ apparel ads spanning the history of fashion.

6. Man Repeller: Seeking Love, Finding Overalls
As a long time follower of the musings of Leandra behind Man Repeller, I was super stoked when she wrote a book. One of my favorite things about her blog was her way with words; her whitty rhetoric, her uncanny ability to perfectly use SAT level verbs to describe fashion, and her effortless analogies. While I have yet to pick this baby up, I need to. And so does every blogger you know!

7. The TeenVogue Handbook
This book is perfect for the fashionista in your life who has yet figured out her niche, or where she wants to go within the industry. I bought this book in college when I was at that level, and the in depth descriptions of the positions and jobs within the fashion industry helped give me a better overall view of the business, as well as helping me hone in on my favorite aspects.

8. The Fashion Book
Dictionary-like, this mini-book offers basic information about iconic designers and fashion terminology alphabetically. The cover and size also makes it a great reference book to keep on your desk or night stand! There’s also a heftier, larger version available perfect for the coffee table!

9. Fifty Dresses that Changed the World
If your blogger wants to run the world with the air of sartorial intelligence, knowledge of the iconic fashions is necessary. This book will show what it takes to make a stand out piece and to be inspired by the greats.

10. Lauren Conrad’s Style
Another celebrity penned book, this one talks about style basics, proportion, and how to dress for both the ‘burbs and the city life. Probably my all time favorite celeb book.

11. Lauren Conrad’s Beauty
LC can do no wrong; she always looks flawless, which is why she’s been on our radar for so long. I mean, do I really  need to be the one to tell you how long its been since Laguna Beach was on the airwaves? Instead, read this book and take beauty tips from the gorgeous star.

12. Born to Blog
Not yet in my position, but a book I’ve skimmed through before and love. It’s great for those just beginning to ponder blogging for fun or to make it a business. Born to Blog offers easy steps with thorough explaining to help you get off on the right foot.

13. Vogue The Covers
Last but not least, every blogger would love this iconic book of inspiration. Whether for their bookshelf, desk, or coffee table this book showcases over 120 years worth of fashion history, beginning from the days when Vogue was merely sketches and Sears ads.

Do you own any of these books? What do you think of my picks for your blogger this season!?

Quick Quiz (Get to Know Sahra!)

Okay, so two of my favorite bloggers, Kaelah and MiniPenny, both did this fun get-to-know-me quiz and I couldn’t resist to join in on the fun! I used to LOVE the lengthy quizzes back on MySpace, so the nostalgia factor is there.

Enjoy the peak into who I am and more about me!
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
I’m a regular Tom Haverford; I check my phone for emails, tweets, InstaGram, Facebook et cetera as I slowly muster up the energy to peel back my duvet and get my butt out of bed.

2. What is the 3rd picture on your phone? Share it! 20131015-181601.jpg
This gorgeous wild cat. Why? look at those eyes, the ears… I WANT IT

>3. What TV show are you most excited about returning this Fall?
New Girl. I recently watched the past seasons on Netflix and fell in love. GIVE ME MORE NICK AND JESS!

4. What is something really popular that you secretly (or not so secretly) loathe?
Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s. Never liked em.

5. Do you have any pets? Tell us about them! Bonus points for pictures.
Maven. He was found on the side of the road in the LES by a friend of mine who knew I’d been wanting a kitten for awhile. He’s now a 3 year old spoiled fattie, and the best fur baby a girl could ask for. He’s actually going to make a little appearance in an outfit post this week! baby maven 10baby maven 21398837_1461919490700876_560826366_o

6. If you could put together one outfit that represents you perfectly, what would it be?
This is kind of hard! There’d definitely be a black leather jacket; with a casual tee, midi skirt, and stacked rings with a statement necklace. A little classic, a little edge, and a little glam!

7. What is your favorite adult beverage?
Whiskey and ginger ale. Even better with a splash of St Germain elderflower liqueur.

8. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Pop Punk music! It’s not my beau’s favorite but when he’s not around I listen to my throwbacks of Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, and Brand New.

9. What are 3 positive words to describe you?
Eclectic, driven, and rational.

10. What is your favorite Friday afternoon/evening activity?
Being that I mostly work from home Friday’s aren’t all too special. :(

11. A day in the life: What does you typical day look like?
Z wakes me up around 8 to say goodbye before work. I either get up and watch the Today Show or I go back to sleep until 10 and then put on the Today Show. I email, plan postings for here and UnderEmployed Fashionistas, and do real work stuff. Z come home around 6 and I cook him dinner while we talk about our days and which Netflix series to embed ourselves in for the night.
I lead a rather boring life most days.

12. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
Europe. Somewhere I can be inspired by life and fashion, but have travel and other cultures at my fingertips.

13. You’ve got a whole day to yourself…what will you do?
Bubble bath, clean, probably drink a bottle of wine and watch Gossip Girl and old Audry Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe movies!

14. Dream job?
I’d like to say anything in fashion; I’ve loved every position I’ve tried rom wholesale to buying to writing. I guess in a dream world, though, I’d be a work-from-home mom doing what I’m doing now but with greater success.

15. Least favorite chore?
Cleaning the bathroom

16. When do you most feel like a rock star?
ooooh. When I kick butt at whatever I’m working on. Whether it be seeing an event I slaved over go smoothly and get tons of press, or if I really connect with the patrons in my store.

17. What is something you are currently trying to improve within yourself?
There’s always something. Currently, it’s trying to figure out how to be less of a control freak in situations. I like to do everything myself and I need to learn how to share, delegate, and trust others with responsibilities.

Saturday Festivities:The Last of Summer

20130923-115211.jpgThis past Saturday I awoke at 8am, ready to start a productive, fun filled last hurrah of summer! I wanted to check out the Brooklyn transplant of my favorite Flea Market’s second weekend in DC, District Flea, as well as make my rounds at my neighborhood’s festival, H street Fest. All this before proposed rain and a work shift at 3:30? I’m crazy, I know.
After energizing with croissants at our fave local bakery, Batter Bowl Bakery, we made our way on the Metro towards the flea market. With flocking groups of people it was easy to find. We perused the booths, taste tested spicy things and macarons, tried out jackets and tried out couches, all before hitting up the highly anticipated food lines. I’d been told Chaya DC’s vegetarian tacos were a must, and I’m so glad we tried them! The kale was both of our favorites over the summer squash. Pumpking beer was a perfect fall beverage to drink the tacos down with, though I advise no one to ever look up the caloric content; EVER. 20130923-120057.jpgcoastersmacs20130923-120734.jpg20130923-120825.jpg20130923-120847.jpgI left district flea with a bottle of delicious local hot sauce and the most perfect fitting denim jacket that I just could not say no to. Hilariously enough, it’s a little boys size 16, but really who cares if it looks good!?

Back on H street the clouds had started to roll in but everybody was out having a good time. We had been warned that our favorite local bakery, the aforementioned Batter Bowl Bakery, would have cronuts, so we made a beeline for their tent as I handed them my card for the 3rd time in 24 hours.20130923-121309.jpgTaking this photo was torturous heaven; the man of my dreams holding the coveted holy grail of pastries… And then, we ate it. I let Z have that top layer (I don’t like chocolate) and then we split the rest. It was buttery, doughy…good…yet I had imagined it to be slightly crispier and flakier.
I left this adventure just before the rain came down; perfect timing!

Does your neighborhood have flea markets or block parties? Have you ever tried a cronut!?
